THE EMPRESS ROSE: Synopsis
Rose Voss is practical by nature; the kind of woman who sees the forest and the trees. In one day she is widowed, left with a semi-destroyed home, limited funds and four kids to raise, so she does what any practical woman in her situation would do: quits her job as a waitress and starts her own hydroponics farm.
Being a natural-born gardener and an organizational whiz, Rose and her youngest daughter manage to pay off their debts and turn a profit in a short period of time, but as is the case with many CEOs, it’s at a price. Her children, not wanting to be hired hands, do anything they can to avoid her. Her brother-in-law has become a raging alcoholic with no desire to get sober. And if that isn’t enough, she’s lost favor with her neighbors for, among other things, not fitting in like everyone else.
Unfortunately, Rose isn’t the only problem for the small, rural city of Luscious, Missouri. Business is dying thanks to the new Save!Mart next door and the young people are taking their families away to find something better. Luscious is at a crossroads as it struggles to find its own identity in a global marketplace and denial won’t work anymore. Once and for all the residents must choose: will Luscious adapt or will it die?
